- Health Records
Number one
priority for every breeder, owner, or manager of a herd of animals, is
to maintain and ensure the health of the animals in his or her care. All
animal species are prone to some form of general sickness and injury.
Herd health maintenance programs will depend on geographical region, number
of animals, types of feed, housing, and contact with other types of livestock.
Maintaining
up-to-date records for each individual animal is important. The recording
of weight, vaccination and de-worming data, miscellaneous injuries or
illness, teeth and toenail (hoof) trimming is important, as is the breeding
history for reproductive animals. Because maintaining a healthy herd
is such an important part of Herd Management, HerdLogic provides
you with the ability to track the maximum amount of information.
HerdLogic allows you to record two types of medical data:
Routine "Medical/Health"
related maintenance tasks and "Special Medical" data.
Customizing
routine "Medical/Health" tasks
| These
records are designed to track tasks such as, de-worming, vaccinations,
toenail (hoof) trimming and other health related issues, which are
administered on a regular or routine basis. Since the type of treatment
and the frequency depend on geographical location, you can specify
the vaccine or treatment used at your farm, ranch, or stud.

HerdLogic
allows you to assign group names, to group related treatments. For
example you can create a group named de-worming and assign all de-wormers
you use to this group.
You can enter routine "Medical/Health" tasks for a single animal
or for a group of animals at one time.

routine "Medical/Health" data for a single animal
| The
routine "Medical/Health" records allow you to track: |

- The
date the animal was treated,
- The
date when you plan to perform the same treatment again,
- The
treatment, or procedure administered, the route of administration
(oral, subcutaneous, intra muscular, etc.),
- Dosage
administered, lot number of the vaccine,
- The
cost of the treatment
|
You can also
enter comments for each animal, related to the task performed.
For example when trimming toenails for a Llama you might enter the following
comment: "She was very uncooperative today, and wanted to cush down
every time."
The entry screen always shows the last recorded weight and the date that
the animal was weighed. Weights can be recorded in kg or lb., and can be
viewed in either unit.

The
group entry form makes it easy to enter "Medical/Health"
procedures for a group of animals at once. HerdLogic presents you with the location
tree to make it easy to select your entire herd, a single location,
several locations, or a group of individually selected animals.
The same procedure is used to enter group weights, body scores and
height data.

HerdLogic
you can print a worksheet,
to take with you to the barn. This worksheet will list all animals you selected
and the selected treatments listed for each animal, with the date each treatment
was last administered, or performed. If any of the selected routine health
procedures requires you to know the weight of the animals, the last ten
recorded weights and dates are also listed.
The worksheet
also lists the breeding status for females. For pregnant females the worksheet
will list:
- The expected
due date,
- The number
of days the female is pregnant,
- The number
of days left till the expected due date,
- The number
of days post partum are listed, for females that recently gave birth.
- The number
of days past the expected due date, for females that are overdue.

"Special Medical" information
Special Medical
records are intended to record data for non-routine treatments. These
are cases, which often involve the attendance of a veterinarian.
HerdLogic provides you with three main memo fields, and allows
you to describe the:

Weight,
Height and Body Score records
Keeping track
of the weight of your animals is an important function of managing your
herd. HerdLogic makes this easy for you, through individual
and group weight entries. The weights can be recorded in kg or lb. Weights
entered in kg can be viewed in lb. at any time, and vice versa. HerdLogic
also allows you to track body
scores, if you do not have access to a scale to weigh your animals.
In addition to weights and body scores you can also track the height of
your animals in either inches or cm. You can switch between Imperial
(English) units and metric units on the fly.

weight, height and body score for a group
| One
of the powerful features in HerdLogic is Group Entry.
To our knowledge the approach used in HerdLogic is unique.
You can print a worksheet
with the last 7 weights, height measurements, or body scores on record.
The worksheet is identical to the one produced for group
entry of routine Medical/Health procedures. |

We believe it
is important that these weights are available to you while weighing the
animal. If there is a weight loss, you want to know this at the time you
are weighing the animal, and look for a possible cause.
When you enter the information recorded on your worksheet in HerdLogic
you have the option to provide a comment for the entire group, or you
can select to override the group comment for each individual animal. Optionally
you can enter the next date when you want to weigh, measure, or body score
your animals again.
When you
provide a "next" date, HerdLogic will place this
task in the Herd Information Manager.
