can I delete health tasks I no longer want to use? |
| A: |

a health tasks has been used, it cannot be deleted. This would affect
historical records where this task was used. However, you can indicate
that you no longer want to use these tasks. Once flagged, they no
longer will appear on the list of choices. |
| Q: |
I
often perform 4 or 5 "tease" tests on my female alpacas
(llamas), before I have these females confirmed pregnant via an ultra
sound test. Why must I enter "Yes", and make them pregnant
for the progress bar to show, when I really don't know for sure if
they are pregnant? |
| A: |
The
progress bar will show the progression of a female's pregnancy. This
bar will only appear for females, that you have indicated to be pregnant.
It is true that a "tease" is a behavioral test and is not
100% percent reliable (see chart below). Nevertheless, it is a test
where we can assume that when the female rejects the male, there is
a greater than 50 % chance that she is pregnant. Therefore, there
is nothing wrong, with assuming she is indeed pregnant.
If she does not reject the male in a subsequent "tease"
test, and she is bred again, you mark this as a negative test and
enter a new service record. This way you maintain an accurate account
of what happened.
In
the case where she rejected the male in all tease tests, but an
ultrasound proves she is not pregnant; entering the negative test
for ultrasound will terminate her perceived pregnancy. Because HerdLogic™ allows you to print the breeding records with the associated
pregnancy tests, you will always be able to see the true course
of events.
As
a user, you can enter a negative test without resetting the status
of the female to "open". In this case the status will
remain serviced, and you will not see a pregnancy bar. A later ultrasound
will then confirm if she is indeed pregnant. Any positive test will
make the progress bar appear.
To
summarize you can:
- Enter
all rejections as positive to show the female as pregnant.
- Enter
all rejections as negative and leaving the female as serviced.
Note:
Most users prefer to enter the rejections as positive.
Remember, the reason you are conducting behavior tests is because
you believe your female is pregnant.

| Q: |
I
tried to enter a "Stillborn" birth, but LamaLogic won't
let me proceed without entering a name for this animal. I would rather
not. Is there a way around this? |
| A: |
A
unique name, number, letter, or any combination of numbers and letters
must identify each animal, dead or alive. This is the only way that
LamaLogic 2000 can track information about each individual animal.
My recommendation is that you use the birth to enter a stillborn animal,
since this will results in more accurate records. In addition, the
females gestation will then contribute to the average gestation calculations,
and gestation history. If you don't want to use a name, enter something
like SB-1.
There
is another, albeit less desirable, method of entering a stillborn.
Instead of entering a birth, set the female status to "OPEN"
and enter a comment. You can do this as follows:
- Enter
a negative pregnancy test. A Tease test will do.
- Reply
"YES" when asked if you want to label this female as
"OPEN".
- Click
"Accept" to save the record and close it.
- Delete
the pregnancy test you just entered. The status of the female
will remain "OPEN".
- Select
the breeding record and click the "Modify Record" button.
- Enter
"Delivered a Stillborn on year/month/day", or any other
comments as you desire.
- Click
"Accept" to save the updated record.
Disadvantages
of using this method:
- There
will NOT be a record that this female gave birth.
- This
record will NOT contribute to the average gestation calculations,
and gestation history for this female. (There is no record of
a birth.)

| Q: |
A
nursing animal disappeared when its mother died. How can I get it
back? |
| A: |
When
you record the death of an animal, HerdLogic™ will automatically
remove it from the inventory and move it to a location named <Unassigned>.
Any young animal that is still "attached", i.e. that is
not yet weaned, will automatically move with its mother to the new
location. The proper procedure is to wean the young animal first.
To retrieve the young animal do the following:
- Select
"Group Activities", "Move Animals between Locations".
- Select
<Unassigned> from the Source Location and press the Tab
or Enter key. The deceased female should be in the list.
- Select
a Destination Location. Select the deceased female and move her
to the Destination location.
- Click
"Accept" and close this form.
- Select
"Individual Activities".
- Select
and highlight the deceased female in the location where you put
her in step 3. Her young will also be there and appear at her
side.
- Select
the young animal and select "Activities", "Wean
this Animal" from the menu on the top of the form. Make sure
to assign a different location from the mother, otherwise it will
not be weaned.
- Now
move the mother back to the <Unassigned> Location. An easy
way to do this is select the name of the deceased female and highlight
it.
- From
the menu on the top of the form select "Change", "Location
of this Animal".
- Click
the "Move to <Unassigned>" button.
I plan
to make a change in the next upgrade, to automatically wean young
animals first, when the death of a nursing mother is recorded.

| Q: |
How
do I change the price listed on the inventory form? |
| A: |
The
price you want to change is the "Selling/Asking" price
on the registration details screen.
- Select
"Individual Activities", "Records for an Individual
Animal".
- Select
the name of the animal for which you want to change the price.
- Select
"Registration Records", "Update registration".
- Select
the "Pricing/Insurance" tab, and change or enter the
new price.
- Click
"Accept" to save your changes.
